Mars Anomaly Research was the name of an internet cesspool of hysterical crankery that retained some popularity for a while before apparently dying away some time ago. Its main purpose was to show (well, assume) that NASA and ESA have been doctoring space image data from the get-go in order to cover up the truth that Mars and other bodies in the solar system are actually much more similar to the Earth than we are being told and contain several life forms and, indeed, advanced civilizations. Why NASA and ESA would do that is anyone’s guess, but conspiracy theorists would probably have no problem coming up with a feeble and incoherent explanation and zealously defend its accuracy in the face of any counter-evidence or reductio.
In any case, the site was maintained by one J. P. Skipper. His “evidence” consisted primarily of strange-shaped shadows that, with the right photoshopping, would look quite a bit like
facilitated pareidolia farms, buildings, giant trees, or deliberate airbrushing of notable features by
evil scientists. As for the conspiracy, Skipper seems mainly to have believed
that authorities actually believed that these other worlds were lifeless and
only doctored the images passed to the public to make sure no one started
questioning their cherished theories.
Most of the “evidence” was ridiculously poor examples of, well, pareidolia. Some “images” of various planets were not photos of planets at all, but digital models that Skipper would mistake for photos (e.g. here). In general Skipper and his fans displayed a pretty poor understanding of how scientific instruments taking photos of things millions of miles away actually work. See here for an example of “forest life on Mars”.
Diagnosis: While “bullshit” is probably a more apt characterization than “deliberate misleadings”, the website at least contained quite an impressive amount of it. Though the site has been down for a while (leading to all sorts of conspiracies over at Above Top Secret, Skipper might be back with more of it before you know.
Obviously, you don't know what you are talking about ( YET AGAIN, ) Another Narcissistic Blogger Nut-Case, who will claim that others have a problem, NOT HIMSELF. While you are entitled to your opinion, this sloppy, and ill-worded blog, is a worthless piece of literature ( as usual ) You don't even have the courage to do any research. I guess you figure everybody should listen to your worthless narcissistic dribble, with no references, no data, and no actual facts. Fools dive in where angels fear to tread water.ReplyDelete
He WAS NOT a Nut-Case.Delete
I worked at NASA Goddard Station (also Houston Nasa and "Most" of the other stations).
I was present when the Hale Crater pictures were downloaded and compiled into one master photo. The city was in pristine condition as if people still maintained the buildings and roads. Windows were intact, streets appeared to be clear of any sand accumulation as well as on top of the buildings. There were statues, what I called the apartments w parking lots but NO vehicles anywhere. To the north were roads with irrigation ditches on both sides of the roads and one main road that went from the left side of the crater and climbed the ridge to the top. The picture stopped there so I did not see which direction the road went from there. There were a couple of places where I could see actual road surface but most was obscured by cuts and ridges.
The apartments (?) had windows as did virtually all of the buildings. Some buildings did not have obvious windows except in the portion facing the roads.
There was a temple (?) with a statue which had steps on 4 sides and 4 curved arches leading to what must have been a statue. All I could see was what looked like the bottoM of a skirt but the rest was blocked by the arches.
One building which fronted on 2 streets had a 45 degree door opening onto the corner of those two streets.
After they compiled the high res pictures they took it to the pre-release department which fogged out the city so that it was not visible.
Changing the contrast does show much of the city but still blurry.
Yes folks. There is an intact city in Hale Crater. The government just does not want you to know that fact just like so many things that is going on now.
The current rover bypassed the city there but it is in ruins. Just look at the pictures of the debris and you will see carvings that HAS to have been PRECISELY carved.
JP Skippers work on both our Moon and Mar's had MONUMENTAL revelations from the obscured Moon buildings to farm-like fields, roads and buildings of Mars.Delete
Anyone who puts Skipper's work down is either a disinformation shill OR so stupid that he believes what NASA says is true.
His website is gone . . . Why?
Today is February 10, 2017. I just checked and the Mars Anomaly Research site is up, but doesn't look like it has been updated since 2014. I hope J.P. is okay. I got his autographed book and found it amazing and informative. I'm a planetary scientist myself, and I believe there ARE artifacts and architecture there. The pictures coming back are telling more and more of the picture every day.Delete
Encyclopedia Of American Loons will not print or publish dissenting opinions. It is therefore not a public forum as stated.ReplyDelete
Due to spammers comments are kept in moderation until I have time to look at them. Commenters who point out things we may have missed are particularly welcome, but I don't see much of that in your above comment. Which claim, precisely, do you think is insufficiently sourced or researched?Delete
"It is therefore not a public forum as stated"
Stated where, exactly?
In the United States Defamation, Libel and Slander are considered civil offences. I am quite sure, that most of the people you have listed as here " loons " would be glad to participate in a law suit, designed to get you to retract some of your statements, or pay damages. Some of them, make their living off of their books, and articles, false or not, truthful or not. While everybody has the right of freedom of speech, and all opinions are protected by the constitution, slander and libel are there to protect people like you, from destroying other peoples livelihoods. http://www.nolo.com/legal-encyclopedia/defamation-slander-libelReplyDelete
You will be given ONE WEEK to reply to the above statements. Today's date is March 20, 2015.ReplyDelete
We are happy to correct any mistakes we may have made, and we do strive for accuracy. But I am really missing some details here. What, precisely, do you think is wrong or mistaken in the above post? You have never specified any statements that you think are incorrect or inaccurate, or explained why, except for a very sweeping, general claim about lack of "references" and "data", so you have really given me no clue as to what you want me to reply to or double check.Delete
Do I also need to remind you that you *have* already called me "Another Narcissistic Blogger Nut-Case" in your first comment?
I also said you would try to make this my problem, and not yours. If you didn't like being called names, then why do it to others ? " - " Loon " implies crazy. So I suppose you are a trained psychologist or psychiatrist, and have a qualifying degree, so you are able to call people insane ? Why ? Because you think they are ? I have known Skipper for more than a decade now. He's a friend of mine, and that disqualifies me to try such a case. What you are doing here in this blog and others is targeting people for character assassination, based on their ideas. It surely falls under the category of Defamation. If then, that person lost a book deal, or a grant from a religious organization, because of your statements here, then it would fall under the category of Libel. Why do you think you are immune to such civil liabilities ? Although I will defend your right to say such things, it can't be targeting individuals themselves, because that falls under the category of civil- liabilities. FOR INSTANCE : You could change the name of your blog to The American Encyclopedia of Loony Ideas, and their proponents. Then it is less likely you would be held responsible, for civil liabilities because it targets ideas and not individuals necessarily.ReplyDelete
Skipper's site in not a " cesspool. " Its a very organized effort to show the public, more than NASA wants them to know, about Mars and other topics. Although he may ramble at times, he does his best, to describe things that are completely anomalous, and do not correlate with anything that's known. In that sense, he's a seeker of truth, which is, and always should be, the root of science itself, He presents a viewpoint that is rare in today's world. - To group him in your loony bin with your other unfortunate individuals here, is pitiful, pathetic and wrong. He has faced adversity, and had his site assaulted over the years, by people like you, who don't seem to care about anything but THEMSELVES.ReplyDelete
Skipper does not Photoshop Shadows. He enlarges only, most of the time, and at the bottom of each page, is the documentation directly to the NASA data -bases where the photo can be found. I am sure he would say that I am not qualified to talk about his methods, but seeing as nobody will, I can tell you that some of the things we see in the Mars Photos is very questionable and therefore demands more careful study. That's the easiest way to describe what I have seen on Skipper's Site.ReplyDelete
Skipper may not photoshop the images, but NASA often does in order to highlight the features they are interested in. The images will accordingly often also contain strange-looking details that don't look strange in the originals.Delete
I also think that Skipper may very well be a nice fellow and an intelligent person. I do wish he would spend his efforts doing something more useful.
This blogger didn't even look at any of the website's evidence obviously. What a myopic, cretinous slob you are! Maybe if you put some actual work into looking into something you might just be able to right something worth reading on the subject. As it stands with this post, this just exposes your utter ignorance on the matter.ReplyDelete
Guess you were totally wrong, GD. Using the same kinds of image analysis as Skipper, NASA scientists confirmed running water on Mars. Mr. Skipper will await your apologyReplyDelete
what happened to JP Skipper?????ReplyDelete
