#438: Sandy Adams

Sandra “Sandy” Adams is the U.S. Representative for Florida's 24th congressional district (hardcore rightwing), and a true nutcase, Bachmann-style. Her track record contains (ultimately vetoed) votes to enact burdensome waiting periods and tough parental notice laws for young women seeking abortions (including required ultrasound tests before terminating the pregnancy) and opposition to stem-cell research for rather incorrect reasons.

Equally insidiously, Adams is a staunch opponent of teaching evolution, calling on teachers to “teach theories that contradict the theory of evolution,” and asserting that Christians should reject evolution in favor of “the biblical terms of how we came about” (when asked whether she believed in evolution she replied ‘I’m Christian. What else do you want to know?’) Oh, and she supports Florida’s unsuccessful private school vouchers program, and wants the Ten Commandments to be displayed in public schools. Indeed, sheonly want the best possible education for Florida’s kids.

To top it all, she has defended the idiotic conspiracy theory that Sharia law is thriving in Muslim communities in Michigan and in danger of spreading throughout the United States. More here.

Diagnosis: Who on earth voted for this bonehead? Adams is a religious rightwing version of Richard Hoagland and should have been treated accordingly. Mad, and dangerous.

  1. There are lot of crazy people with the last name "Adams." It makes me feel sorry for our 2nd and 6th Presidents.

Obviously, Todd Akin will be on here soon, but do you think Keith Albow (Glenn Beck's psychologist) qualifies? I'm not sure what he's said that's really crazy aside from claiming that Newt Gingrich's infidelity might make him a better leader.

    1. Maybe ... unfortunately, when I tried to google him there was some consensus that his name was "Ablow". Which means that we'll have to put him on the wait list for round 3, sometime in the future.
